In collaboration with the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) Fellows program, a group of diverse artist fellows embarked on a yearlong exploration with Hospitality House Community Arts Program (CAP) Artists. The focal question of our journey was 'Can we make creative dissent matter?'
Led by cohort leader Anna Xu, our collective of fellows unveiled their projects at the YBCA Public Square event held on June 2, 2018. This event showcased a convergence of artistry, inquiry, and dialogue, presenting a wide array of creative expressions including workshops, visual and performance art, dance, and music.
The ongoing project revolves around the idea of using our access to artistic institutions, public platforms, and our collective influence as YBCA Fellows to encourage other artists to explore 'Who is not here and why?' Collaborating with Hospitality House and fellow artists, we've secured a space at YBCA for exhibiting work, backed by budget and production support.
This initiative isn't just about art; it's about sparking community engagement and action by delving into profound questions:
How can we discover and empower TRUTH?
Where does our PUBLIC IMAGINATION reside?
Can we truly make CREATIVE DISSENT matter?
The YBCA Public Square stands as a testament to the power of art and creative expression in igniting meaningful conversations, fostering change, and driving a greater sense of belonging and community engagement.
